Q:
How many classes per week should I attend?
A: We recommend 2 classes per week with a minimum of
1, plus a certain amount of practice time in between
classes as the perfect level of training. This allows
the student time to work on material between classes and
become proficient before new concepts are introduced.
Unlimited classes are available at no extra cost. We
will be opening the class schedule to 4 classes per week
very soon.
Q:
Will there be other beginners in my class?
A: Starting your training at Tennessee Christian
Martial Arts is easy! You will be taught separately from
the main class with personalized instruction at your own
pace. In addition, we will also assign you a "buddy" so
you can quickly learn about the school from an
experienced student. You will feel at home here in no
time at all. We want you to feel comfortable and be
excited about coming to class and are always open for
suggestions and comments.
Q:
Will TCMA program make me overly aggressive?
A: At TCMA Tae Kwon Do, children are taught that
the martial arts are not to be used in aggression, but
rather to defend oneself in problematic situations.
Aggressive behavior is channeled into assertiveness to
increase the child's self esteem, increase self
discipline and build character. Our program also helps
the shy child to develop self confidence and become more
assertive.
Q:
Will my classes be safe?
A: Absolutely. All classes taught at TCMA Tae
Kwon Do are strictly monitored to ensure complete
safety.
Q:
What about sparring?
A: You will learn safely through a step-by-step
systematic method of gradually learned sparring
strategies. In addition, all students are required to
wear a complete set of safety equipment. Consequently,
the chance of injury is very small. At TCMA Tae Kwon Do,
sparring is easy to learn and lots of fun. We will not
allow any student to spar until they reach the rank of
8th Gup Orange belt.
Q:
How long will it take me to become a black belt?
A: The time it takes to become a black belt
varies with each individual depending on the effort they
put forth. At TCMA Tae Kwon Do, students are very often
amazed by their own ability and accomplishment in as
little as 2 years. This training will give you the
confidence of knowing that you can defend yourself in
most situations. This level of proficiency typically
takes 3 years. Once again, however, this will vary
depending on your level of effort and desire.
Q:
What is the difference between Tae Kwon Do, Karate?
A: Nationality. Tae Kwon Do originated from
Korea, Karate is from Japan.
Often "hard" and "soft" are terms used to distinguish
the differences, yet all have the same common goal-to
accomplish strength in mind and body, to create
confidence and peace.
Tae Kwon Do is the most widely practiced martial art
today. Tae Kwon Do gives its students the widest variety
of techniques with an excellent balance between hard and
soft styles.
Q:
Why do martial artists bow?
A: Bowing demonstrates sincerity and respect
along with the deep appreciation of oneself and of
others. It also teaches us to be humble while training
to become strong and confident in both body and mind.
Bowing is simply an Eastern form of greeting. It is
equivalent to the Western handshake.
Q:
Why do martial artists yell or ki?
A: Yelling has several purposes:
Develops physical and mental strength, while gathering
energy.
Breaks an opponent’s concentration, and
Is used to communicate with a partner in a group
practice. Yell practice must be from the
abdomen, which
we call "energy field". |
